Cephas Funding

Founded in 1973, Cephas is a non-profit, tax-exempt organization focused on meeting the inner needs of men and women in prison and on parole. Cephas breaks the cycle of crime by helping those who are or have been incarcerated as well as at-risk youth to change behaviors that lead to imprisonment and to rebuild their lives.

Because at this time we receive no government funding, we are dependant on individuals, churches and businesses in the community, as well as private grants to meet expenses. Fundraisers include several seasonal appeals as well as the Annual Hikes of Hope and Award Dinners (One each in Rochester and Buffalo).

Sustaining Membership

Cephas exists solely on private grants and the donations of individuals, churches and businesses in the community . We need regular income to sustain our groups and residences and most grants will not cover the day to day expenses involved in running our groups and residences. Sustaining Membership is an invitation to those who are able, to underwrite the work of Cephas with regular contributions. To become one, you can begin to send a regular monthly donation or let us know that you want to a pledge a monthly, quarterly or annual amount. You choose the level that suits your budget.

Hike of Hope

The Hike is our major fund raiser. Rochester holds its Hike in May and Buffalo’s is held in September or October. Participants walk on behalf of Cephas to raise funds for the groups and residences. Teams from Churches and businesses are welcome and encouraged.
